Housing corporation Thuisrand and the municipality of Lint have put forward an ambitious vision for the complete redevelopment of Kasteelpark residential neighborhood appointing the design team of Woonwerk Architecten & DENC-STUDIO & aAD landschapsarchitecten to bring this proposal to life.
The existing housing stock no longer meets contemporary living standards or energy performance requirements. In addition, its location within the lower-lying southern part of the site makes it vulnerable to flooding.
The proposal therefore prioritizes densification on the higher northern grounds, ensuring a safer and more future-proof residential environment. This strategic shift allows the southern area to be redefined as a blue-green landscape, designed to accommodate water, enhance biodiversity, and provide flood protection for both the site and its wider context.
While maintaining the core principles of the original masterplan (three compact residential courtyards and two green corridors), the proposal reinterprets these elements. The courtyards are redesigned with a stronger spatial identity, and water is positioned as a central structuring element through a system of wadi’s, canals, and a park pond.
The plan introduces 152 new dwellings, distributed across the three courtyards and comprising a mix of housing types. Low-rise building blocks are organized around semi-private inner courtyards, where gardens and parking are carefully integrated.
Entrances and balconies are oriented towards Kasteelplein, the existing public street, which is transformed into a clear north–south axis.
This axis not only supports water management but also establishes a calm and cohesive social and urban connection across the neighborhood.
