Wittouck

Within the confines of the plan we create a varied and articulated architecture and a pleasant living environment to the scale of its inhabitants. The focus of the design, besides quality housing, lies on the creation of quality public space to compliment it.

Because the design of the public space is not part of the brief, public quality is created through the architecture on the building plots. This way we managed to create a mayor improvement, turning the streets into lively human spaces. Nuanced building volumes and variations in materialization yield refined and rich public space.

Setbacks in the facades create small corners which can be appropriated by the residents. The corners are less part of the flow of the street giving them an intimate character. Also the relation between private housing and public space is improved. Living rooms get big windows creating a visual relation. Integrated benches invite as a space to sit in front of your house or as a place for potted plants.

Sofía Vacas Sánchez

Sofia was born in the region of the paella in Spain, Valencia. Musician since she was 6 years old, she decided instead to study architecture. That brought her to RDVA as an intern with a Leonardo da Vinci program. She stayed later as a worker in RDVA and while trying to learn the language of the country as a hobby found a spanish-speaking belgian husband. This was for her the perfect reason to stay and start her family in Belgium. In the office you can ask her about parking regulations or details of a stair, but you will find her more comfortable behind a sketch-up model while being busy with design and thinking how space can be used and better organized for the people to live in.
