Stokstraat

This project is about 40 new social houses that are part of the bigger development of a enclosed plot in Zele. The proposal departs from an urban study that pre-defined the footprints, amounts and typologies of housing. An important aspect of the masterplan is to retain the open green space and informal character of the site. This is done by keeping the footprints of the buildings small and preserving the community gardens, the donkey field and space for water. The buildings all have a place in the green either freestanding, or completing an existing block.

The ground floor and the entrances of the houses are carefully designed. Variation in the brick makes for a balanced but unified image. Buildings are variations of each other, but form a clearly defined whole.

The garden pavilion is a meeting space for the neighborhood. Here organizations or residents can organize events or birthday parties. The pavilion is inspired by the roof of the apartments and housing.

Patricia Mata Mayrand

I have always been an aesthete, critical and curious person, which led me to the interest of how Architecture impacts on people’s daily lives. The obsession with simplifying complex processes in order to achieve a recognizable solution that applies naturally across the different scales of a project, has come to define my practice. These solutions weave together efficiency, sustainability, comfort, and identity for the end user. After completing my university studies, I moved to the Netherlands with a scholarship from Fundación Arquia to work at MVRDV. I later returned to Spain, where I worked as an independent architect and contributed to a project on the coast. Back in the Netherlands, I worked on large-scale projects at EEA; and with a clearer vision of my professional goals, I decided to join Woonwerk Architecten, where I continue to develop my career. In addition to my professional work, I participate in volunteer activities that allow me to experience firsthand life in residential care centres that offer rehabilitation services, cognitive stimulation, and medical care. I am committed to sharing and promoting my experience at both a local and international level.
