A couple of weeks ago, WoonWerk Architecten, together with Stad Antwerpen, organized an excursion to the Schipperskwartier in Antwerp for Gemeente Utrecht, ‘Afdeling Strategie, Lobby en Stedelijke Sturing’. This neighborhood is currently considered “in transition,” and our recent developments in the area are interesting examples of new city dynamics — a situation that recurs in many other places.

We visited our project Oudemansstraat, where Rik van Vught and Rutger Boydens (Woonwerk Architecten), together with AG Vespa (the client), informed the group about the project as a whole, while also highlighting the differences in work methods between the Netherlands and Belgium. In addition, we visited the Falconhoven project. Filip Smits, director of City Projects for the city of Antwerp, was our special tour guide through the Schipperskwartier, and Valerie van de Velde from Atelier Stadsbouwmeester Antwerpen shared insights about city developments in her very interesting presentation.

It was an informative and valuable exchange, which we hope will develop into a future collaboration.
